|Description (include details on usage, files and paper references)||This is the database of biological images (from the genetics model system, Drosophila melanogaster, a fruit fly) across multiple levels of variation.
we have constructed an image database of Drosophila melanogaster wings (the genetic model system, (fruitfly) used in biological research). These images are individually identifiable and organized by sex, genotype, and replicate imaging system (multiple microscopes, and each microscope at multiple magnifications)., for the development and testing of measurement and classification tools for biological images.
In addition to the raw images, we include landmarks and semi-landmarks (features extracted based on a priori decisions of informativeness and homology from a biological perspective) as flat text files. We also include scripts that compare several classification approaches based on the a priori determined features vs. feature extraction and selection using computer vision and machine learning tools. These are meant primarily to provide some benchmarking for newer approaches.
